Given the very serious problems that our country is facing today, we believe that there are two areas that would help us overcome our challenges. The first is to focus on educating our children and the second is unleashing the power of everyday Americans. Two organizations that we strongly believe will help us on both of these fronts are the Carson Scholars Fund and Americans For Fair Taxation.
The Carson Scholars Fund
The Carson Scholars Fund, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity that was founded in 1994, by Johns Hopkins pediatric neurosurgeon, Dr. Benjamin Carson, and his wife, Candy, to recognize and reward students in grades 4-11 who strive for academic excellence (3.75 GPA or higher) and demonstrate a strong commitment to their community. The scholarships are awarded without regard to race, creed, religion or financial need. Scholarships are awarded for attendance at four-year colleges and universities upon the student's graduation from high school.
Thanks to some very enthusiastic supporters, including Jerome Bettis and many other Pittsburgh Steelers, the Carson Scholars Fund is very active in the Pittsburgh area. To learn more about them, visit their website at www.CarsonScholars.org.
Americans For Fair Taxation
Americans For Fair Taxation is a non-profit and non-partisan organization that supports passage of the FairTax plan. We have seen the onerous burden that complying with the current tax code has placed on our clients (everyday Americans). We feel strongly that the FairTax is a potential "Silver Bullet" that could unleash the power of the middle class in this country by truly simplifying the tax code.
The FairTax plan is a comprehensive proposal that replaces all federal income and payroll based taxes with an integrated approach including a progressive national retail sales tax, a prebate to ensure no American pays federal taxes on spending up to the poverty level and dollar-for-dollar federal revenue neutrality.
The FairTax Act (HR 25, S 1025) is nonpartisan legislation. It abolishes all federal personal and corporate income taxes, gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, and self-employment taxes and replaces them with one simple, visible, federal retail sales tax administered primarily by existing state sales tax authorities.
The FairTax taxes us only on what we choose to spend on new goods or services, not on what we earn. The FairTax is a fair, efficient, transparent, and intelligent solution to the frustration and inequity of our current tax system.
